At the turn of the year 2021 - 2022, the BOP Umbilical was replaced for one of our customers' Semi-submersible drilling rigs operating in the North Sea.
The replacement was carried out during the so-called "Rig Move", thus avoiding unplanned downtime and utilizing unproductive time for productive work.
Equipment from our rental department was used - as well as some of our personnel with experience and expertise in handling and replacing Hydraulic Control Cables in close collaboration with the rig's own Subsea Personnel.
Such bundled cables are applied to an outer layer with an extruded protective sheath. Control cables can consist of only hydraulic cables, a combination of hydraulics and electrical cables or only electrical cables.
Cables are mainly used as "communication" between the rig's well control system and the well control valve (BOP) installed on the seabed wellhead.
A minimum of two such communication cables between rig and BOP are required for operations on the Norwegian continental shelf, in addition to acoustics and Hotline as a safety barrier to control the well.
Our personnel have expertise and experience from sales, re-termination, testing and emergency repair of the outer shell at, among others, BOP Umbilical. This in addition to equipment for repair and replacement on board the rig.
